i was getting ready for work in CA...my sister in law lived in NYC so we were trying to get ahold of her...i also had to wake my family up in HI.

How hard to be so far away from your sister-in-law. Was she ok? Also, I imagine very hard to have to tell family in HI about it before they even knew. :(

I was in college in Flagstaff. I woke up for an early morning class, didn't turn on the TV, walked to class...and people were crying in the hallways, watching the news. I went and called Tim (who was still asleep). "Turn on the TV," I said. And we both sat silent on the phone, our hearts breaking for all of the lives lost.
